The Biggest Career Challenge that Millennials Face

This is not your parent’s career. You know, the one where they stay in the same job and retire with the gold watch. The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that most high schoolers today are going to have at least 10-15 jobs across their entire lifetime. Personally, I think that is a really low number. With millennials, I think we are talking 20-30 jobs… or a whole lot more than that. Some of that number will involve holding multiple jobs concurrently.  Part-time work is becoming more prevalent, and people might have to work 2-4 part-time jobs at the same time… Read »

Resume Writer Confidential: We Know When You Are Lying

Not unlike a confessional, resume writers oftentimes hear stories that would make most people’s hair stand on end. How they messed up on the job big-time. Or a bad decision that resulted in a termination. Or had an awful boss who did unspeakable things to them. Or didn’t know how to do the job to which they were reassigned. There are a million different stories out there on the street, and resume writers hear a lot of them, day in and day out. Over time, we grow thicker skin after the shock of what goes on in the workplace wears… Read »

Fitting Into A New Company

Just like breaking in a new car, there’s that “honeymoon” period after you start your first day that requires extra special care and attention. You can’t hit the gas too hard otherwise you risk spinning out of control and skidding out of the lines, even before you know where the lane markers are. Smart career managers realize that it takes a delicate balance of assertively stepping up to job tasks and gaining the respect of co-workers and counterparts while carefully navigating around unknown landmines which could blow up right underneath their feet. Treading carefully and quietly is the savviest career move you can make… Read »

Caveat Emptor: Buyer Beware When Selecting A Resume Writer

It’s an unfortunate truth that some job seekers have been bamboozled by unscrupulous “resume writers” who either offer cut-rate services on places like Craigslist or simply don’t deliver the goods after talking a good game just to hook in a prospective client. The end result? Many are suspicious of writers, and this feeling has been amplified by similar horror stories (albeit rare) in the media. Most ethical writers, however, are active members in either Career Directors International or The National Resume Writers’ Association, and genuinely care about their client’s success. Happy clients, after all, refer friends, family members, colleagues, and… Read »

What to Look for in Hiring a Professional Résumé Writer

Prospective clients come from all paths of professions and walks of life, and it never ceases to amaze me the different styles people have when approaching a business transaction. When it comes down to hiring someone to write the most intimate and revealing document about their lives, I truly fear for the people who don’t take the time to research a professional résumé writer thoroughly before booking their services. Before hiring a résumé writer, it is important to do your due diligence, because just like there are differing levels of honesty in any other profession, the same goes for this… Read »
